Architecture that blends with nature

The Active Energy Building in Vaduz resembles a futuristic cruise ship in the heart of the Alps. Its dark, shimmering facade and dynamic lines reflect not only modern design, but also a visionary energy concept. The movable climate wings are particularly impressive: they automatically adjust to the outside temperature – cooling when it is hot and warming when it is cold. As a result, the building is completely energy self-sufficient and even feeds excess energy into the grid.

Modularity meets intelligent lighting

The twelve residential units offer flexible layouts, with walls that can be moved or rooms that can be recombined, enabling architecture that changes with its residents. Zumtobel emphasises this concept with continuous SLOTLIGHT infinity LED light strips that integrate seamlessly into the design, creating a modern and atmospheric lighting environment. In communal areas, the round ONDARIA luminaire provides gentle, sound-absorbing light that enhances calm and well-being.

Energy efficiency redefined

The entire structure follows the logic of nature: a load-bearing Voronoi steel structure inspired by insect wings maximises stability with minimal use of materials. Photovoltaic tracking systems on the roof increase the energy yield by 2.9 times and establish new benchmarks for sustainable architecture. The Active Energy Building is more than a residential building – it is an experiment for the future of energy-independent construction and a blueprint for sustainable living worldwide.

“We are delighted to be part of this architectural jewel with our unique lighting solution – and now we can marvel at the end result”
