Sustainability in line with the EU Green Deal

All products used are designed for low energy consumption and minimal maintenance throughout their entire life cycle. At the same time, the chosen lighting already takes future sustainability requirements into account in line with the EU Green Deal. The entire lighting solution is designed to keep energy demand permanently low, minimize maintenance efforts, and close material cycles. Thanks to its modular architecture, luminaires and components can be easily replaced, upgraded, or adapted to new uses in the store.

Sustainability in retail: PENNY sets new standards

The new PENNY store demonstrates what modern sustainability in retail looks like. The striking timber frame construction sets ecological standards, while generous green spaces with plant islands and wildflowers promote biodiversity. Rainwater is absorbed on-site, and heating is provided exclusively by waste heat from the refrigeration system, which is powered by 100% green electricity. A photovoltaic system on the roof complements the concept. Certified with the greenpass Silver Seal, the store is a flagship project for climate-resilient, resource-efficient construction.

"This will make the PENNY store in Weiden am See a showcase project for the use of renewable raw materials in retail construction. I am very proud of this project – my personal figurehead. For our customers, this means a modern, friendly and future-oriented shopping experience that also makes an active contribution to environmental protection“
Says Johannes Greller, Managing Director of PENNY Austria.
