Sustainable office lighting for Christopher Addison House in London

The Christopher Addison House project in Hackney, London aimed to modernise an outdated office building and make it energy-efficient while also enhancing the working environment for staff. The requirements included a significant reduction in energy consumption, the integration of modern lighting technology and the preservation of existing installation points. Moreover, optimising room configurations to create flexible workspaces and modern communal areas was a key factor.

Energy efficiency and comfort through intelligent lighting management

The lighting solution was holistically designed and meets both functional and aesthetic requirements. With the LITECOM lighting management system, presence and daylight sensors were integrated, reducing power consumption by over 50%. The collaboration with ISG Contractors and the Waterman Group made for a precise process to fulfil the lighting requirements — even when faced with challenges like low ceiling heights and limited installation space.

The ceiling is equipped with modern, elongated luminaires that provide bright and uniform illumination. Generous windows allow plenty of daylight into the room.

Powerful lighting solutions: MELLOW LIGHT, Chalice and more

The choice fell on high-quality products from the Zumtobel Group: MELLOW LIGHT evolution was specially adapted to allow for concealed air circulation – ideal for the latest office standards. Thorn Chalice is an efficient LED downlight with UGR < 22, ensuring glare-free lighting. In high-traffic areas like stairwells, Zumtobel LINCOR provides uniform lighting, while robust solutions such as Aquaforce Pro, ForceLED and Katona guarantee reliability and durability in technical and outdoor environments. Emergency lights such as Voyager deliver additional security.

Technology meets sustainability – with a tailor-made solution

One special highlight is the custom-developed MELLOW LIGHT evolution, which integrates both lighting and air circulation. A technical dual solution that saves space and optimizes building technology. Enhanced by durable LED technology (up to 50,000 hours lifespan) and intelligent control systems, the project exemplifies sustainable renovation. The installation of energy-efficient lighting demonstrates a clear commitment to a low-carbon future.
The expansive ceiling lighting provides uniform and bright illumination for the entire room. Daylight is added through the windows on the left side.

"This project offered an excellent opportunity to transform the building. The proposed sustainability initiatives reflect the desire not only to create an exceptional environment for users, but also to reduce the environmental footprint in the long run."
