Light as a tool for forward-thinking
The Futurium is a house of futures – a place for inspiration, discourse, and innovation in the heart of Berlin. The architecturally sophisticated building unites exhibition, event space, and laboratories under one roof. The goal was to develop a lighting concept that not only impresses functionally but also visually communicates the idea of the future and provides an immersive visitor experience.

Lighting design that integrates architecture and interaction
Zumtobel developed a custom-made lighting solution that is attuned both to the architectural concept and to the quality of visitors' experiences. The focal point is an interactive light installation in the foyer: sensors capture movements and generate a unique light pattern around the visitors. The interplay of direct light, reflection, and dynamics transforms the building itself into an experience.
Lighting solutions with form, function, and flexibility
Highly efficient and customised products were used in the Futurium: PANOS evolution and PANOS infinity as subtle downlights, ECOOS for area-wide light distribution with a pleasant light characteristic, and SLOTLIGHT infinity for linear lighting scenes. The INTRO M and LINARIA modular systems provide targeted accentuation and seamless integration into walls, ceilings, or stairwells – delivering lighting quality that unites space and content.
Intelligent controls and sustainable lighting operation
All luminaires were networked with DALI technology and integrated into a superior lighting management system that automatically adapts to daylight and visitor frequency. With precise control, long lifespan, and high energy efficiency, the solution supports the sustainability goals of the Futurium. Light is used here not only as a design tool, but also as an active contribution to sustainability and resource conservation.
