The Illwerke Zentrum Montafon (IZM) in Vandans is one of the world's largest office buildings constructed using a hybrid timber construction method. With approximately 10,000 m² of usable space, it serves as a hydropower competence centre for Vorarlberger Illwerke AG. Architect Hermann Kaufmann chose a modular construction system that enabled rapid installation. The goal was to develop an ecologically exemplary building with high-quality workspaces that complies with the passive house standard and is fully heated and cooled using waste heat from electricity production.
