Light as the key to safety and orientation
The Kreuzfeld Nursery in Altach was constructed with the objective of creating an environment that caters to the needs of children while simultaneously adhering to the highest sustainability standards. The challenge was to develop a lighting solution that is both functional and emotionally appealing, offering children safety and guidance.
Lighting solution: Harmonious interplay of function and atmosphere
Zumtobel developed a bespoke lighting concept that emphasises the architecture of the timber construction while simultaneously creating a warm, welcoming atmosphere. The strategic use of light creates seamless transitions between indoor and outdoor spaces, fostering a sense of comfort.
Deployed products: Functionality meets design.
85 round PANOS downlights were used as part of the solution, ensuring uniform illumination of the corridors and immerse the wooden surfaces in warm light. 89 LINARIA semi-recessed linear luminaires were installed in group rooms, offering optimal lighting for activities such as painting, crafting, or playing. Plus, special lighting solutions were developed for retreats to create a welcoming and soothing atmosphere.
Technology & Sustainability: Lighting Control with Responsibility
All luminaires were equipped with energy-efficient LED technology and integrated into an intelligent lighting management system that automatically adjusts to daylight conditions. Through precise control, long lifespan, and high energy efficiency, the solution supports the project's sustainability goals and contributes to creating a healthy environment for the children.
"Good childcare is only possible in rooms go beyond just meeting legal requirements and that actually make occupants feel comfortable"
Markus Giesinger, Mayor of the Municipality of Altach
