Illuminating art without stealing the show – at the Museo d’arte di Mendrisio
As part of a comprehensive renovation of the Museo d'arte in Mendrisio, the core challenge was to implement a precise and flexible lighting solution to the highest demands in museum operations. The goal was to showcase artworks in the most elegant way possible, while offering visitors a pleasant viewing experience and not forgetting to protect the delicate exhibits. The lighting system should also be integrated into the existing architecture without visually dominating the space.
Custom lighting solution for delicate artworks
The lighting design by Afry Svizzera SA took a delicate and precise lighting approach that seamlessly integrates into the exhibition concept. Thanks to the close collaboration with electrical planner Elettroconsulenze Solcà SA and installation company Sulmoni Daniele SA, a perfectly attuned solution was crafted that considers both the museum's technical requirements and aesthetic considerations. The light distribution was precisely attuned to the specific rooms and art objects.
Curating clear lighting: SUPERSYSTEM and ARCOS in action
Zumtobel's high-quality LED systems SUPERSYSTEM and ARCOS were the ones to come out on top. The museum was impressed by SUPERSYSTEM with its minimalist construction and precise light direction – ideal for temporary exhibitions with changing exhibits. ARCOS, on the other hand, offers an outstanding light spectrum and, thanks to its flexibility, guarantees balanced, glare-free lighting for delicate artworks. Both systems guarantee accurate colour rendering and make sure that nothing else but that artworks steal the show.
Technology meets sustainability: energy-efficient, gentle lighting
Although a tailored solution wasn't necessary, the focus was on sustainability: The LED lights not only offer high energy efficiency but also a long lifespan, which reduces maintenance costs and protects the environment. Thanks to cutting-edge control technology, the lighting level can be adjusted to match daylight and the exhibition concept. This creates a balanced interplay of technology, energy savings and lighting that's just right for the art.
