Light as a dramaturgical element

Together with architects and curators, Zumtobel developed a lighting solution that integrates seamlessly into the museum's scenography. From the cobalt blue seabed to the radiant white main room, each station is narrated through light. The lighting design directs the gaze, evokes emotions, and supports the narrative dramaturgy – all in the spirit of a multi-sensory museum visit.

A museum as a narrative experiential space

In Mali Lošinj, Croatia, the Muzej Apoksiomena tells the compelling tale of an ancient bronze statue that remained concealed in the sea for 2,000 years. The aim was not only to exhibit the archaeological find, but to make it an emotional experience within a complete walk-in work of art. The visitors are guided through staged rooms reminiscent of film sets, where light plays a central role.

Modernly designed space with staggered seating steps, colorful cushions, and reflective mirror walls that foster a creative atmosphere. The lighting creates highlights and emphasizes the dynamic architecture of the space.

Versatile lighting concept – from display cases to room staging

Among others, the flexible LED system SUPERSYSTEM II, the RGB-capable recessed floor luminaires PASO II, the miniaturized MICROTOOLS for showcase lighting, and the large-area ceiling lights CIELOS were used. Each product was purposefully chosen for its function to create contrasts, highlight details, and facilitate seamless transitions between the exhibition rooms.

Lighting management with LITECOM – flexible, efficient, sustainable.

The technological implementation was as challenging as it was unique. Thanks to the LITECOM lighting management system, all luminaires can be flexibly controlled and adjusted. The invisibly integrated light sources and precise light distribution not only emphasize the curators' aesthetic vision — they also guarantee energy efficiency and longevity in museum operations. A successful interplay of technology, art, and sustainability.
Creatively designed space with vibrant wall and ceiling murals, where several individuals observe a projection on a large screen. The atmosphere is vibrant and defined by vivid colors.

Light is part of the storytelling here - it directs the gaze, creates an atmosphere, and makes the past palpable.
