Optimal learning environment thanks to a custom lighting solution
When St Paul’s Primary School reopened in 2019, Renfrewshire Council set new benchmarks for modern learning. The goal was to create an environment that enables students to realise their full potential – supported by modern teaching concepts, color harmony, and high-quality lighting design. The requirements: an efficient, low-maintenance, and flexible lighting solution that satisfies the high standards of an educational institution in both functionality and design.

Efficient lighting design for improved concentration and the joy of learning
Zumtobel, in close collaboration with Castle Building Services, developed a photometrically accurate solution that is perfectly integrated both acoustically and architecturally. In the classrooms, the SLOTLIGHT light line provides glare-free, uniform lighting with high color rendering – perfect for focused learning. In the public areas, ONDARIA panel and decorative SCONFINE globe luminaires enhance the lighting concept creating an inviting atmosphere and striking visual accents.
Smart LED products provide durability and sustainability
The following, amongst others, were used: SLOTLIGHT, MICROS LED downlights, ONDARIA and CRAFT high-bay luminaires – all energy-efficient, low-maintenance, and with a long lifespan. MICROS LED downlights reduce time and maintenance costs compared to halogen solutions, while ONDARIA luminaires enhance well-being with soft shadows and superior light quality. CRAFT excels in the sports hall with precise light distribution and ball throw safety - a comprehensive package for functional lighting with style.
Sustainability meets innovation – customised solutions for schools
When it came to the lighting design, the focus was not only on efficiency but also on sustainability and user-friendliness. In the classrooms, some of the luminaires were custom-integrated into the acoustic ceilings to optimise both light distribution and room acoustics. With their long lifespan, high energy efficiency, and low-maintenance technology, the products used actively contribute to sustainability – in line with the vision of a future-oriented educational institution.
